Chapter 4 of 11

Emotional Weather

No emotion is illegal. No feeling is forever.

The Orbital Emotional Weather Service tracks the station's inner climate so we can prepare for it together. Understanding the forecast is part of every crew member's job.

Reading the Forecast

Emotions move through the station like weather: fronts of overthinking, systems of longing, sudden bright spells of joy. None are permanent. The goal is never to control the weather, only to dress for it and keep the soup on.

Caring Across Species

Expression varies by species; care remains universal. A penguin's quiet withdrawal and a seal's loud flop can mean the same thing: this is a lot right now. When in doubt, ask, listen, and resist the urge to fix.

Weather Response

  • Overwhelm warning: give space, offer soup, rescue later.
  • Do not rush a worry system. It clears faster when witnessed.
  • Anger is a boundary in weather form. Respect the perimeter.
  • Joy is also weather. Let it increase the volume. Allow it.
